Annual or perennial herbs, which can reach important sizes. Stem and young branches often covered with glandular hairs that give them a floury appearance. Rhombic or arrowhead leaves, in some species somehow fleshy or reduced.
Flowers green, very small but abundant, grouped in globose terminal inflorescences. The fruit is very small and contains a black and smooth seed.
They bloom from April to November.
